Which is stronger to you, the influence of people, or the influence of place?
For me, definitely, the influence of people is stronger in my work.
What ideas or themes do you want to explore next?
I really would like to make work in and about aged care. I think it is a relevant issue that also connects to issues surrounding our relationship with mortality, community responsibility, and also anxiety about the labour required to afford any semblance of retirement.
When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing?
Honestly, just watching TV in my bedroom and eating fruit, and also lying around with my best friends who I love and adore. When I am not working I am usually just so tired.
What are you working on next and where should people follow you to see more of your work?
For the next 6 months or so I’ll be continuing my work on a short film project that reflects on BHP’s Olympic Dam mine. I’m working with young people in Roxby Downs—the adjacent town that was built specifically to service the mine. It’s a project that has lots of new and challenging aspects for me in terms of relationship building and youth facilitation, so it’s going to take up quite a bit of 2024. It'll be shown at the UniSA Samstag Museum during the 2024 Adelaide Film Festival.
